Amerie, aside from Brandy, and Kelly Rowland (in my opinion) has some of the best vocal arrangements. For one, I originally posted this yesterday from my Youtube channel, cause it's connected to this blog, but it wanted to act retarded, and never posted it. Maybe it was because I wrote like 4 paragraphs on the whole thing, lol
Anyhoo... i'm gonna review the video from start to finish ("Why R U")
At the beginning bridge she sings a series of notes through (E4-G4-E4-G4-Eb4):
*She basically kept going from lower, higher continuously through the bridge. Specifically speakin she went starting a E4, up 2 notes to G4, back down 2 notes to E4, back up 2 notes to G4, and down 2 notes and a semitone to Eb4, INCREDIBLE!!
Then, she repeatedly hits C5 at "Battle" of the bridge goes back through a series of notes up, and down. Hits C5 again just before she starts the chorus. Then, goes back down and harmonizes a G3 in her lower register. Amerie doesn't have the most expansive or thick lower register, but for her to harmonize the G3 all throughout the background vocals, is plain genius. Then, at the end of the Chorus, she hits a series of C5's, including a few in the background including with her singature Oh, Oh, Oh ab-libs.
Next, part of the song around 1:44, she goes through another series of notes through the middle bridge of the song (A4-D5-A4-C5-A4).
*That means she went from low A4 up 3 notes to D5, back down 3 notes to A4, back up 2 notes to C5, and back down 2 notes to A4.
Fuckin incredible!!! I mean to hit the notes so swiftly, transitioning higher lower through the bridge, WHO THE FUCK ELSE DOIN IT?!, lol
She goes through another series of notes, then hits right back up till the middle-end of her chest register to E5 and immediately back down to D5.
Most singers have trouble hitting that note, or notes like that, but Amerie has no trouble hitting those notes at all. She hit E5-D5 about 3 times during the song, and numerous C5's back to back with ease, and on top of that, went through a lot of up, and downs through notes in the song. After, the E5-D5 she goes back to the chorus harmonizin the G3 in the background, then hitting back to back C5's after that. Then, slides/riffs up to a beautiful C5 at around 2:15 (my fave part of the song) Hits another D5 near the end of the chorus, so fiercly, and harmonizes the G3 again, then around 2:39 shoots back up to a E5-D5. Harmonizes the G3 again, then hits a series of C5's in the lead and background vocals of the song. Then, end the song with her repeated low note harmonizations, and the C5's.
Amerie is underrated, very. Her voice is throaty at times. But, it adds to her sound. Her vocals are like rock, funky, edgy, rock and roll like, so it adds to her sound; especially her signature Go-Go sound crafted by Rich Harrison. She said her vocals got damaged at a basketball game or something earlier in life, so that's y her vocals are throaty, but who cares?! P!nk and Christina Aguilera vocals are throaty, but it just adds edge to their voices, and makes the all the while more amazing. She still knocks the notes out of the ball park, and never strains hitting the notes.
Amerie has no problem hitting the top, end of her chest register (F5-G5), which quite the few artist have a problem with even reaching left alone hitting or sustaining. Like on the DC Fulfilled tour, she did her run/riff with F#5 near the end of "1 Thing". And also she has an exceptional Head voice. She hit a Soprano C sharp (C#6) at the end of song "All I Have" off her also titled, debut album "All I Have." Amerie has to be one of the best vocalist around, primarily best lyric Soprano. She's possibly even a full lyric Soprano. Her strength is in her chest register, and head voice. Her voice may be lyric, and seemingly kinda thin, but it doesn't mean she can't SANG, cause woman SANGS her heart out!
Anyooo.. special thanks to my buddy, mariahcareynum1fan on youtube. Go to her channel; subscribe to her channel, rate her vids, favorite her videos, comment on her videos.
